A Paladin’s Compilation
01/02 2.4 Patch
**Items intended for Retribution Paladins have had their stats adjusted. Retribution Paladins should see an increase in dps as a result.
Personally I’d love to see Ret pallies get more Utility rather than more DPS. Give them something akin to Blood Frenzy, Leader of the Pack, or whatever… just something that makes sense to want to bring one over say a Rogue or a Fury Warrior. Sure having another Pally blessing IS nice, but I still think they need something to maybe slide them into the Main Tank group and bump the Warlock into the Caster group where they will receive greater benefits than the tank from Imp Blood Pact.
We use a ret pally in 25-man instances. The 5-man sub-group consists of the ret pally, a hunter, an enhancement shammy and two rogues. The sanctuary aura, trueshot aura, windfury and judgement of the crusader (is that the right one or is it righteousness?) make this DPS group hit particularly hard. The only reason they don’t fully dominate the DPS charts is because we put a boomkin with the caster group. There are also between 2 and 4 pallies in each raid (including the ret pally) so the buff array is impressive (kings, salv, might, wisdom or light).
Oh yeah, our ret pally also goes into 10-man instances where he is also very welcome for his group utility not to mention his DPS. The physical DPS group from 25-person instances just shows how much a ret pally can benefit and receive benefits from others when grouped properly.
I am raiding as ret on VR fight #6 in damage meters and not to far from top or bottom currently raiding as ret is vialble not only do u bring utility but a blessing, lay on hands, divinie intervention for wipe assist, seals. Why wouldn’t any raid leader bring a well equiped ret pally (assuming they know how to spec and play it).
Yeah ret pala’s seem a viable option, i am currently a holy pala, healing in BT and MH.. I think i might make the jump to retri, but i am not so clued up on the spec and the new gear enchancements..
can any1 tell me if the new gear stats have made a difference?
I have been recently making the switch from 2k heals over to my 2k atk pwr! After a year of two healing spells….it feels so damn good to smack something with a big 2h’er again!
Not everyone is cut out to be a ret paladin! If you don’t know what you are doing….please read more forums and posts. If you go and stink up your raid….you may just making it harder for the next ret paladin that comes along.
With the right spec…you will be an asset to the raid. Personally I raid with a Prot Paladin MT whom LOVES my 12% increase to all of his Holy DMG…leading to MORE threat generation and MORE pwnage by our whole raid.
Our 5 man looks like Prot Pally MT, Ret Pally, Rogue, Enh Shaman and either a DPS Warrior or Hunter.
Make sure you get in the melee group. Make sure you have the right aura on and make sure you OUT DPS EVERYONE! Hahaha ok… shoot for top 5.

Ret pallies are amazing in raids.
Judge of Crusader gives 3% crit raid wide.
Crusader strike refreshes all judgements – Light Wis and Crusader up at all times… SO HOT. Just make sure the holy pallies and any prots toss their judgements up as fight begins.
Then lastly Sanctity aura, which is 2% damage bonus to all party memebers and 10% dmg bonus to all holy dmg. This is a HUGE bonus to Prot pally tanks, it’s basically a 6-10% bonus to their threat.
I’m at work, so my numbers might be a little off. But what I say is still true. If your guild can see the merrit in a boomkin there is no way they would pass up the perks given by a Loladin.
Ok I am going to play a ret pally… I am hoping to find good resources on everything I can do from professions, rotations to potions to keep my dps up…Appreciate any help..
Also how hard is it to get decent gear from 6-70 Is it questable/pvp winnable or instance drops?
