What started as an exploratory run (understanding the fight) ended up downing a boss for the first time.
Overall the fight is relatively easy (tanking wise). The only difficult part was understanding which beams did what and don’t exhaust yourself which you can’t hold the beam. This took a few attempts for everyone in the raid to understand. Then everything just clicked. We rotated in and out of the beams nicely. We just has some issues between portal phases where we would lose one or two people. This put a little stress on the remaining member but we held it together.
One of the attempts, Netherspite’s health rose from 40% to 75% quickly. This was caused by confusion on who had what beam. Then a few minutes later he enraged which wiped the raid. Even with the confusion I knew we had him, it was just a matter of time.
Our next attempt (which was my last and few others) we began the fight. Swath (out MT for this fight) began to engage Netherspite until the red beam appeared. While he took the red beam, I was assigned to take the green beam then Swath and I would switch beams with each portal phases.
For a paladin absorbing the green beam will exhaust your mana pool to zero. Without mana a paladin is basically useless but due to the red beam giving immediate aggro everything was fine (as long as the MT does not die because I could not keep up my threat with no mana most of the fight)
We got Netherspite down to 25% health and I noticed my timer saying “One minute until enrage”. With a healer and DPS down, I felt confident we could defeat him especially after the first phase our DPS died. But as time began to countdown, we started to lose DPS. Then I looked at the timere again “25 seconds until enrage” and Netherspite only has 5%. The at 15 seconds we got him to 1%. Then at 10 seconds before enrage we downed him. My eardrum almost exploded because of the loud cheering coming from vent.
Now Sarcophagus can officially say “We cleared Karazhan”
As for loot: Cowl of Defiance and the Mantle of Abrahmis dropped
I came away with the plate shoulder since Swath passed on it. Thank swath!
Mooooooo! Moooooooo I say!
You shall not slay me! I shall spray you with milk and you shall be dooooomed!
— The Cow of Defiance
🙂
Im glad someone pointed that out in a clever way i thought it was hilarious
if you guys have any druids in the group, they can stay shifted into a non-mana form, and they won’t lose mana when they have the green beam on them. just a helpful hint from one pally to another 😛
bah, typo! lol
NP Man I have the Arena Season 2 Warrior Shoulders socketed and enchanted for tanking… which I believe are better than those shoulders. Enjoy!
And another comment on the fight itself… I made sure I generated enough threat during the fight so that transitions to / from Portal phases were smoother.
Grats! Netherspite has consistently been the toughest Kara boss for my guild. I think we’ve killed him three times total; other times we’ve wiped, or more commonly, just skipped him.
Gratz on Netherspite our guild will soon be taking a wack at him soon too. Will see how it goes at that point.
