Paladin Line of the Week

Me: “Do you know how to tank?”
Paladin: “Yes, but I have to be ready to heal when the healer dies”

This came from a RFK pug, which the paladin was tanking. Just say he had a difficult time tanking which killed the healer a few times. After he utters that statement he left the group.

Did he realize what he said or did he think we were bad players? /shrugs

(I wish I took a print screen)

Kind of depends on why the healer was pulling aggro. Might have been a bad tank, although as a paladin I’d be surprised if he couldn’t tank almost anything, especially in RFK. Mark targets, follow kill order is pretty standard in there.

I’ve pally tanked runs where the dps kept hitting the wrong targets, or in the wrong order; which meant they needed to be healed, which then caused the healer to pull aggro. Especially hard and frustrating if they pull a CC’ed mob. Thats my job to do with Consecrate, not theirs. 🙂

I agree but I believe the paladin was new because he/she was not generating enough threat to sustain the aggro.

If a paladin is going to assume the healer will die by saying “WHEN the healer dies.” then that’s a sign that he’s not a good tank but not aware of it. If a paladin tries to heal himself, it had best be with a potion, trinkets, or seal of light if he’s in combat on trash mobs. It’s only vaguely understandable for him to heal himself on bosses unless the boss happens to have a 3 second cast or channel ability (Usually Skyriss, last boss in Sethekk, Bladefist’s blade dance, etc) but even still, those are rare occaisions. It’s for times like that when I use a /cast [target=mouseover] Blessing of Protection macro if the healer’s health goes down any.
