Ulduar Paladin Tank Tip

Grabbing the adds can be a chore since they scatter once they appear which will cause some annoyance with the raid if some escape.

Immediately after the right arm has been destroyed be sure to stand in the rubble then cast concentration. This will ensure the pack of earth elementals will get hit by your concentration when they appear. If you are a second or two late the elementals will scatter and attack the party.

FYI – You may need to compensate for your personal latency.

Once you have established control of the elementals, kite them to Kologarn’s body. Then any splash damage will hit the adds and eventually kill them. Also this will keep you safe from the eye beams and allow you to obtain the bosses aggro (if necessary).

When the right arm re-generates, ask the raid to kill the remaining adds (if any). Then help DPS then move into position once the right arm has been destroyed. Rinse and repeat.

On the 25 man version there will be a dedicated off tank specifically on the rubble. In the ten man, tank swapping is no longer required, as the crush armor debuff only lasts 10 seconds, so the OT can focus solely on the rubble.

The pickup method you described is solid, but the idea of bringing the elementals into the melee and tanks at the body is a dangerous one. The rubble has an AOE attack that will pretty swiftly kill anything not wearing plate that gets too close, and additional damage on the Kologarn tank is never a good thing.

An easier method is to have the melee DPS stack on the Kologarn tank. if they face foreward, they can still attack either arm, and Kologarn will not target them with eye beams. Once the rubble collapses, have the ranged DPS switch of kologarn and nuke down the adds. This minimizes the risk they pose to the rest of the raid.

Hmm, is that 25-man (rubbles have an AOE attack that will pretty swiftly kill anything not wearing plate)? My guild strictly runs 10-man with mostly melee DPS (shammy, cat druid) and I don’t recall seeing the rubble causing that much of an issue.

As for your method, I like it. I may try it if we have issues with Kologarn’s adds in the future.

The adds explode with AoE splash damage when dieing, thus dragging them to the MT is probably not a great idea. This damage can most likely kill one of the Kolgarn tanks in 25 man, usually resulting in a wipe. It’s also likely that this either doesn’t happen in 10 man or doesn’t pose near as much of a threat.

    Quoting from http://www.wowwiki.com:

“Since they do a lot of AoE damage on heroic mode and give a debuff that increases physical damage taken, they should be tanked away from the main group with a dedicated tank. On normal mode, dragging them to the boss and killing them with incidental AoE works.”

So yeah, the strat Salud posted would be limited to the 10-man version then (which our guild runs exclusively). For us, it definitely works perfectly, though.
