I would rather have a Neutral Steam-Powered Auctioneer

The new changes are great. I will have my own personal butler, access to an Auction House from Dalaran, I can teleport through a wormhole and among other things. Before I get too excited I am going to wait for the next PTR patch or two to see if there are any changes. I believe Blizzard will “twink” some of them for better or worse (depends on how you see it ;P)

Overall, this is a good start.

However there is one particular change I would like Blizzard to consider. Allow the Steam-Powered Auctioneer access the Neutral Auction House not your own faction’s Auction House. Right now the Neutral Auction House is rarely, if ever, used. This is mostly due to the location of the Neutral Auction House. You have to travel by air or water to a far off location (Winterspring, Gadgetezan, Booty Bay, Tuskarr village) to gain access to the Neutral AH. Most of the time traveling to the Neutral-AH is not worth the time and effort.

If Blizzard allowed access to the Neutral Auction House through the Steam Powered Auctioneer in Dalaran, the Auction House could stimulate the economy between factions. Horde and Alliance players can buy/sell items without having to go outside of the game (i.e. WoW forums). Plus this will help the lower populated servers.

Also this could potentially increase profitability of the Engineering profession since only Grand Master engineers have access the auctioneer.

It is something to think about.

Here is a list of the changes:

1) Added a new Mind Amplification Dish attachment for helmets, allowing engineers to control other humanoid targets. Some restrictions apply: does not work in Arenas, dish sometimes reverses targets, unable to stack with other stat-improving head enchantments and makes your helmet look… stylish?

2) Added a schematic for a Goblin Welding Beam that can heal friendly mechanical or vehicle units.

3) Alarm-o-Bot functionality changed. Materials required reduced.

4) Box of Bombs no longer requires an anvil.

5) The Cobalt Frag Bomb now incapacitates enemies within a 3-yard radius. A short cast time was added, but they are usable while moving. This change applies to any Cobalt Frag Bombs already created. The existing recipe now makes 3 at a time.

6) Engineers can now learn to create a portable Wormhole Generator for Northrend. The Wormhole allows them to travel to different locations in Northrend, although the locations are sometimes in dangerous places.

7) Increased benefits from Hyperspeed Accelerators, Hand-Mounted Pyro Rocket and Reticulated Armor Webbing glove modifications.

8) Increased the passive bonuses provided by Springy Arachnoweave, Flexweave Underlay and Nitro Boosts.

9) Increased siege damage caused by Saronite Bombs and the Global Thermal Sapper Charge.

10) Mote Extractor now has innate tracking for gas clouds while it is in your inventory. Tracking of gas clouds has been removed from goggles.

11) A new repair bot has been added, and his name is Jeeves. He is the ultimate gentleman robot butler, able to perform all the mundane tasks of repairing, selling and buying junk for your entire raid. Additionally, he can open bank boxes for skilled engineers (350+). Jeeves is not destroyed when used, but due to pressing engagements, can only be summoned once an hour. The schematic for this handsome robot was said to be hidden within the parts of another robot – hoping to be found by an engineer one day.

12) Nitro Boosts: Now have a 5-second duration.

13) Potion Injectors now increase the amount gained by 25% when used by engineers.

14) Quantity produced by recipes for Runic Healing and Mana Injectors has been increased.

15) Reduced the materials needed to create all engineering Dragonlings, and reduced their cooldowns, although they still cannot be used in Arenas.

16) Significantly reduced the cooldown on MOLL-E.

17) The Spynocular belt attachment has been changed to a Frag Belt. The Frag Belt periodically produces a Cobalt Frag Bomb that can be used from the belt every 10 minutes (never runs out!).

18) A Steam-Powered Auctioneer has been added to the Dalaran Like Clockwork engineering shop, allowing access to one’s faction Auction House. The Steam-Powered Auctioneer was programmed with a superiority chip, and will only interact with Grand Master engineers.

19) Transporter devices are no longer classified as trinkets and can be used directly from your inventory.

20) The Ultrasafe Bullet Machine and Saronite Arrow Maker schematics have been simplified to create a full stack of the appropriate ammunition. No longer requires an anvil. Reduced the materials required to make this ammunition.

A Dalaran neutral AH is an interesting idea, but I’m not sure if it would get enough critical mass to have stable or sane prices.

The hypothetical Dalaran AH would only be used by Dalaran engineers, and if engineers are 10% of the population, that’s a small pool of customers. Would you rather post your saronite in a small market where you don’t know if it’ll sell in time, or post your saronite in a big market with lots of buyers?

Sweet changes indeed. Engineering still remains the ‘gadgetteer’s’ profession. But it seems more fun than ever now :p

I have to say I don’t support the idea of switching the steam AH to the neutral rather than faction AH. While people may avoid the neutral AH in part because of accessibility issues, there’s also the matter of the high posting fees. And I just don’t think there are enough engineers (especially ones who are going to be willing to stand there and be proxy auctioneers for the general population) to change anything about the popularity of the neutral AH. It will still be much simpler and in most cases more economical to just work through the faction AH, and that’s what people will continue to do. Honestly, switching from faction to neutral would turn the steam powered auctioneer from something I would use a lot to something I would almost never use.

Will it be helpful, sure. I am a Grand Master Engineer and I will use it from time to time to buy last minutes pots, mats, etc but I think having a Faction AH in Dalaran is pointless. You’re a hop-skip-and-a-jump away from the Portals to head to the AH in one of the Capital city.

Also few/some/most players have a bank toon that does most of their AH needs (ie. buying, selling, etc). If not you have alot more bag space than me.
